Are crypto IRAs worth it?

Hi. With all the hype around Trump buying BTC, I’ve been thinking about diversifying my retirement portfolio with cryptocurrency. Has anyone here had any experience with a crypto or bitcoin IRA? I know crypto is volatile, but the idea of tax advantages and growth potential is tempting. What are some of the best crypto IRA companies that you would recommend? Thank you.

Crypto IRAs? That’s essentially gambling with your retirement savings. Potential upside may be tempting, yes, but the extreme volatility means one major downturn could leave you financially vulnerable in retirement. I’d recommend more stable, proven investments like index funds for long-term security.

The fees are insane. Setup fees, custody fees, trading fees... it adds up fast. Unless you’re investing hundreds of thousands, it might not be worth it. Also, finding a legit crypto IRA custodian is a headache. If you want exposure to cryptocurrency, it's probably buy Bitcoin on a centralized exchange yourself.

Fees are definitely a problem, but if you’re bullish on crypto long-term it could balance out. I’ve got a small portion of my IRA in Bitcoin, and it’s outperformed my other investments by a mile.

Not necessarily. Crypto is speculative, but so were tech stocks in the 90s. If you believe in blockchain as a technology then it’s not just gambling, it’s investing in the future. Just don’t be dumb and put your entire retirement into something like Dogecoin or $TRUMP.

I think Bitcoin IRAs are for people who already have a solid retirement plan and want to take a small, calculated risk. If crypto is your primary retirement investment plan, then it's probably better to focus on the basics first. 401(k), Roth IRA, etc. But that's just my opinion.
